HOW TO START A JOURNALISM CAREER : SHARING MY EXPERIENCE

Some of my readers who are interested in Journalism keep on asking me that how to get into the profession. Or how to start a career in journalism ? Is there any course which can bring success in journalism ? If I share my experience I will say there is no particular way or rules to get involved in this profession. Believe me, there is no particular way to start a career in journalism. While sharing my experience I must say one thing that just love it for the sake of passion for truth seeking.

After completing my Graduation I just done 1 year diploma course in Mass Communication & PR. But I know many successful journalists who hardly have any degree in Journalism or Mass Com. Rather, they have come from different educational background and manage to achieve their goals.
So it is not always necessary to have a journalism degree. It will add an extra benefit. During my Broadcasting journalism class one of our professor (who is also a renowned journalist from Kolkata) once told us that your true lesson on journalism will start when you will dive into the field. Journalism classes can only give you some theoretical knowledge. Yes, it is absolutely true. In my journalism career I find few things are really needed if you want to be success in this field.

  1.  CURIOSITY
  2.  HUNGER FOR NEWS
  3.  KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN
  4.  CRITICAL ANALYTICS
  5. BE A GOOD STORY TELLER
  6. BE VERSATILE
  7. INCREASE YOUR CONTACTS OR SOURCE FROM WHERE YOU WILL GET NEW
  8. REMAIN UPDATE WITH WHAT IS GOING AROUND YOU.

If you have this qualities then you can really ready to hit the field whether it is Broadcast Journalism or Print Journalism.

But the thing is how to take an entry in this media. Believe me I never had any backing neither sat for compassing. I just started from local evening newspaper as a reporter. Slowly I get the chance in Daily Newspaper.

I still remember that after getting the address of Newz Bangla I went to meet with the Editor without any prior appointment and there was no job interview process going on at that time. I just told him that I want to be a part of this field and I am confident enough to learn also. As it was a print media so he asked me to write on any of the burning issue. I just do that and a week later I got the call. So be confident and show your urge to learn. Also keep good command over the language on which you are working.

Just love your job and don't expect anything big at the beginning. Also get ready to see the dark side of the journalism too. If you can overcome the struggle you will definitely achieve your goal.

This is a little part of my experience which I share with you. If you have anything to ask or to share please do write on my comments box
